Plainsboro resident Adrienne Thayaparan awarded Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Spain

A recent Hamilton College graduate, Thayaparan majored in Hispanic studies

Clinton, NY (07/19/2023) — Plainsboro resident and recent Hamilton College graduate Adrienne Thayaparan has received a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Spain for 2023-24. The goal of the program is to improve foreign students' English language abilities and knowledge of the United States while increasing the Fulbright Scholar's own language skills and knowledge of the host country.

Thayaparan spent her junior year in Spain through Hamilton's academic year program, and said she had gotten to know a lot about Spanish culture. "But I did not get the chance to experience their educational system. I'm hoping to learn more about how the culture is reflected in the classroom environment, the teaching process, and the advancement of learning," she said.

Thanks to Hamilton's open curriculum, Thayaparan said she was able to explore classes in different departments to figure out her interests. "I discovered my passion for education and Hispanic studies, which led to me pursuing the Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Spain," she explained.

Thayaparan said she looks forward to exploring more of Spain's numerous festivals that are an integral part of its cultural heritage. "I got to experience a few last year, including Las Fallas in Valencia and the Transhumance Festival in Madrid. It was an incredible experience to enjoy the jovial community and vivacious atmosphere."

Adrienne Thayaparan is a graduate of West Windsor Plainsboro High School South
