Hamilton's Community Outreach and Opportunity Program (COOP) Service Internship Program began in fall 2009 to put students in close contact with area service organizations. During their first two years at Hamilton, service interns work at least six hours per week on site at their non-profit agencies, helping them identify skills and interests and explore career options. When a group of interns "graduates" after their sophomore year, they're on the road to becoming leaders in the community.

Alternative Spring Break 2022
Twenty-nine students participated in Hamilton's Alternative Spring Break this year. Participants traveled to Millfield, Ohio, and Sussex County, Del., to work on Habitat for Humanity projects, and to Greensboro, N.C., to work with Guilford College's Every Campus a Refuge Program that helps support the transition of refugee families. Alternative Spring Break is aimed at increasing students' awareness and concern of social issues while generating a life-long interest in community service.

Alternative Fall Break Trip
Six students participated in this year's Alternative Fall Break trip. Part of Hamilton's Alternative Break program, the fall trip is modeled after the College's other alternative break trips in which student volunteers provide service to non-profit organizations. Students participating in the program this fall travelled to Double H Ranch in Lake Luzerne, N.Y., where they volunteered with Double H's Comfort Camp Weekend. Double H Ranch is a SeriousFun Children's Network camp that offers year-round programs for children and the families of children with serious or chronic illnesses.

Alternative Spring Break
Thirty-six students participated in Hamilton's 26th annual Alternative Spring Break. Participants traveled to Rockbridge, Va., Goldsboro-Wayne, N.C., and Marion County, S.C., to work on Habitat for Humanity projects, and to Baltimore to work with youth. Alternative Spring Break is aimed at increasing students' awareness and concern of social issues while generating a life-long interest in community service.

Alternative Winter Break
Nine Hamilton students spent a week of winter break in Kure Beach, N.C., doing community service as part of Hamilton's Alternative Break program. The group participated in Hurricane Florence relief work through Community Collaborations International. The students built a fence for a horse pasture, cleaned out flooded shelves, packed residents' belongings prior to house renovations, and dug a trench to help with rainwater drainage.
